A very rich and malty style, the Dubbel is often full-bodied and slightly sweet with some dark fruit flavors - though generally not as many as a Belgian Strong Dark Ale.
As is the case with Belgian beers, the yeast give fruity esters and spicy phenol flavors, and although the malts generally give the beer a dark amber to dark brown appearance - the caramel malt flavors seldom to never venture past sweet and toasted. Hop bitterness is generally fairly low, with the upper single-digit alcohol well hidden.
Serve at cellar temperature, 55-57 degrees, in a chalice or stemmed tulip glass.
