Marzen / Oktoberfest

Before refrigeration, beer brewing typically stopped in March (Marz in German) and the beer was stored and drunk throughout the spring and summer months. At the end of the warmer months the remainder of the beer was consumed during Oktoberfest.

Ranging in color from gold to a deep red, the Vienna and Munich malts give the beer a toasty malt sweetness. Noble hops are used, giving a subtle herbal and floral taste and aroma, with mild hop bitterness. ABV can range from 5-7%.

Best served cool, at 46-54 degrees, and in a pint glass or beer mug.

History states that the first Oktoberfest was held on October 12, 1810 for the commemoration of the marriage between Crown Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Keeping up with Erie Brewing Company’s German brewing influence, our brewer created Fallenbock.

In 1810, Munich celebrated the wedding of their Crown Prince with a special beer. After 16 days the party ended, but the tradition continues. Our version of the classic Oktoberfest lager blends 5 roasted malts for a rich, hearty flavor while Bavarian Noble hops add a touch of bitterness.
