Saison / Farmhouse Ale

Originally brewed in the south of Belgium, the Saison (French for "seasons") was originally brewed toward the end of winter in order to last through the warmer months.

Ranging in color from golden to orange, these beers have a wide variety of flavors. The malt sweetness is moderate to low, with a mild hop bitterness and an earthy, citrus, and floral flavors and aromas from the local yeast used. Still relatively crisp and light - perfect for the summer months.

Best served at cool to cellar temperatures, 46-57 degrees, in a stemmed tulip or large wine glass.

over the ages the term 'cellar door' has numerously been referred to as the most beautiful term in the English language. upon setting out to create the first summer addition to the Stateside line up of ales; the feeling that almost instantly came to me was that of beauty & cleansing.

Most Brooklyn beers are made with a blend of hop varietals. As a chef does with spices, we look to get the best qualities of each hop and create a harmony of flavors and aromas. However, a few years ago, our brewmaster ran into a hop unique enough to deserve its own moment in the sun.

Just as the Serpent Bite and loss of Eurydice was the catalyst for Orpheus’s journey, our love for hops and sour beers was the catalyst for Orpheus Brewing. Serpent Bite is a dry-hopped, sour mash saison, with a tart bite, and notes of orange and tropical fruit.
