Description:

Allagash Black is a Belgian-style stout brewed with 2-row barley, torrified wheat, oats, both roasted and chocolate malt and a generous portion of dark caramelized candi sugar. The silky mouth feel is a great balance to the roasted character, coffee and dark chocolate notes expressed throughout this beer. (Description provided by company)

Allagash Black pours a not-quite-but-nearly opaque black, not quite as thick as one might think, but relatively hefty. The nose is dominated by strong roasted malts, really nutty and delicious. The flavor is malty and toasty and roasty, with just a little bit of bitterness in the finish. This Belgian style stout has a lot to offer. I prefer it to a traditional stout. It has more body and a bit more complex flavor.
