A manly beer
Filled the glass with Belhaven's Scottish Ale to see an amber brew with a finger-thick white head. Bread and caramel on the nose. Taste has a bit of bitter hop bite and a hint of chocolate. Coats the tongue with a creamy head. Bitterness builds up as you get thru the bottle.
If it's not Scottish, it's CRAP!
Pours out a ruby red and completely transparent, with a full finger and a half of an off white bubbly head. The head shrinks to a thin, creamy layer fairly quickly.
Malty and rich nose, with lots of caramel, toffee, and nutty notes, along with a subtle crisp pale malt aroma that matches the subtle spicy hops.
Taste is similar - with a strong malt flavor, heavy on the slightly sweet darker malts, and a crisp and quick finish. A light roasted flavor as well, which pairs nicely with the herbal hop flavors.
A medium body and moderate carbonation
Easy drinking, and good rich but sweet malt flavors pair nicely with the lighter and crisper hops for a good Scotch Ale.
