Countdown…. 3….2…1… LAUNCH! Blackstone Brewing Company has set forth on their latest endeavor, Dark Matter Black IPA.
This stellar winter seasonal is full of hop flavor, with pine and floral undertones, accompanied by a hint of roasted malt. Just the right balance between hops and malt is achieved making this winter IPA a solid choice for the season. All who behold Dark Matter experience the “dark side” of brewing in the deep rich color. Sensor readings show 6.2% ABV and 55 IBUs make each sip an out of this world experience!
Brewer Josh Garrett says “The hop level in the brew is present but not overpowering which allows for hops and malt to coexist.” The roasted malt bill is slightly higher than found in typical IPAs but still kept in check. Dark Matter features Simcoe and Amarillo hops which add a pleasant aroma and interest to the beer. Those who experience Dark Matter are left with feeling of afterglow.
Throwback sixties comic book artwork was created for Dark Matter, which features interstellar space scenes. Panels of rocket ships, ray guns, and astronauts floating in space wrap each six-pack. An added bonus to the beer is a customized sticker sheet stuffed in select six packs featuring the cast of characters.
Head to the dark side for this lovely IPA! (Description provided by company)

Looks is the only dark thing about this
Blackstone's Dark Matter poured a hazy caramel with a small beige cap which shrank to a film.
Nothing roasted in the smell. This smells like an IPA; all grapefruit and pine needles when I sniff.
The hops are a bit more sedate than I expected from the smell. The grapefruit bitterness mellows into grassy flavors with a bit of sweetness.
This is a nice companion for the TexMex dip in front of me during the Super Bowl.
