Whoa, Nelly!
A couple of US Army soldiers were nice enough to split their bomber of Blue Pants' Dortmunder Adambier with me. The beer is a dark caramel with a thin beige head which retreated to a ring and left no lacing.
The oak barreling left its mark with strong vanilla notes, mixed with apple and dark fruits.
Taste is bourbon barrel, dark fruits, and a bit of burnt notes (but in a good way). Other than the oak barrel traits, this actually hides the 13%ABV well. It wasn't until I felt my face tingle that I realized how strong this Adambier is.
This has a medium body and is smoother and easier to drink large gulps than I expected. This does make it a bit dangerous for those folks that may not be sippers by default when having a high gravity beer.
Highly recommend to folks that enjoy complex beers which have been barreled.
