Not so wee, but definitely heavy
Blue Pants Brewery Wee Heavy Ale aged in bourbon barrels pours a cloudy raisiny, reddish brown color with no head whatsoever. There doesn’t appear to be much in the way of carbonation in this beer. The nose is sweet, with a healthy dose of dark fruits and a little bit of smoke. The flavor is much smokier, a product of the bourbon barrels, I imagine. It’s a strong flavor, but it’s smooth, and gives little indication of its 13% ABV (so be careful!). It’s a good beer, but I think I’d appreciate it a little bit more if it had even just a little bit of carbonation. This kind of style, especially one that’s barrel aged, isn’t supposed to be super carbonated or anything, but a little bit of bite in the mouthfeel could have helped it along. That’s nitpicking though. It’s a tasty beer!
