Starr Hill Boxcar is a pumpkin porter, dark and mysterious, with a smoky pumpkin smell. The pumpkin flavor is understated, but definitely present beneath a bed of rich and nutty notes. The finish is only slightly bitter, with a mouthfeel that isn't cloying or too heavy. This is a well balanced beer with just enough of a unique twist on style to make it engaging, but not so much that it becomes a novelty.
