Description:

We believe this special ale is something unique. Feeding Brown Cane sugar to otherwise cultured brewery yeast is a'kin to feeding raw shark to your gerbil. It is unlikely to ever occur in nature without human intervention. And it looks weird besides. But it has happened and now it is too late.

Originally a failed attempt at our 1997 batch of Olde GnarlyWine Ale resulting in an all-new-beer-style we like to call…Irresponsible. (Description provided by company)

Lagunitas Brown Shugga' ale pours a translucent copper color with lots of head retention. The nose is extremely hoppy, grapefruit predominating. The flavor is pretty bitter. Lots of citrusy hops. This beer is seriously bubbly too. It bubbled the entire time I drank it. Not a negative impact on the mouthfeel though. Overall, I guess there's not much wrong with this beer, other than the fact that, with a name like "brown shugga" I expect it to have at least some sweetness to it. Instead I got hop bombed- not really what I wanted.
