Description:

This is a full on stout.

Brewed with roasted malts, this stout is dark yet smooth.

Chocolate malts are added to even out the taste profile. A nice dark head make this an eye pleaser, while just a bit of english hops are added to give just a hint of bitterness on the finish. (Description provided by company)

I grabbed a pint of Darkness in the Salty Nut tap room. It was put in front of me with a thumb of a tan head atop a black hole of a beer. Where the Vertical House black ale was very dark with a peek of light creeping through the edges of the glass, Darkness sucked/blocked all light which may have been tempted to pass through the glass.

Smells of a cup of coffee that's been sitting out for hours, dark chocolate, and a bit of popcorn.

The coffee highlights the taste with the chocolate smoothing out the bitterness. So much malt deliciousness. Reminds me of Sweet Magnolia's Jefferson Stout, but with the bitterness turned way down. Closer to a "stout" than an "American stout", IMO.

Medium body with enough carbonation to keep the body from feeling too light. Maybe a bit closer to porter than a stout with the amount of body I feel.

Really hides the 6.4 ABV very well; you've been warned.

Solid stout. Mainly coffee based aroma and taste but not overpowering. Very balanced.
