Award winning Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale® is a unique sipping beer with the distinctive nose of a well-crafted bourbon. Our Kentucky Ale is aged for up to 6 weeks in freshly decanted bourbon barrels from some of Kentucky’s finest distilleries.
Subtle yet familiar flavors of vanilla and oak are imparted to this special ale as it rests in the charred barrels. Pleasantly smooth and robust, Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale may also be served as an aperitif or after dinner drink. (Description provided by company)
Comments
The bourbon is strong, the ale is weak...
The KY Bourbon Barrel Ale pours a transparent amber with about one finger's worth of foamy head that dissipates moderately slowly and leaves some nice lacing behind.
The nose is mostly malty with a hint of hops - there is also a nice bourbon and caramel aroma. The taste is a little less exciting - tasting mostly like a nondescript malty ale, although the bourbon barrel and smokeyness do come through at the finish.
A medium light body is also a little disappointing - but the moderate carbonation is good. The lingering bourbon-y aftertaste is not at all unpleasant - assuming you like bourbon.
Bluegrass beer
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale, not to be confused with the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout, pours a smooth golden color. The nose is slightly sweet with the bourbon aging, but you get a balance of hops and malts in there as well. The flavor is smooth like butter, and just as delicious. The bourbon aging doesn't overpower any of the other flavors here. It's a well balanced, easy drinking, full-flavored ale.
