Comments
I hope Kudzu (porter) spreads throughout the nation
Back Forty's Kudzu porter went into my pint glass a dark, burnt caramel with a beige, finger-thick head that never disappeared even as lacing spread around the glass.
This was the weakness for me. I don't get a strong scent of anything other than a fog of grass and milk chocolate, even as the porter warmed, the aroma was weak.
Kudzu's taste, however, is a strong bitterness that is mostly malt upfront with a pine resin hop coming on the back end. It finishes with a kind of creaminess, which seemed to soothe me after the blast of bitter.
Feels medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation and a nice bite to it.
If smell is important to you, maybe you should drink Kudzu from the bottle. Very much in the vein of typical American Porters with a bit of hops in there.
