Nitro - it's not just for cars anymore!
Pitch black, with a tan head. Head is exceptionally smooth and creamy. Excellent retention and lacing.
Nose is strong in dark roasted malts along with prominent notes dark chocolate and coffee. Very low hop aroma.
Taste is malty, with coffee, chocolate, and other roasted malt flavors prominent. Earthy hops. Moderate bitterness, mainly from slightly bitter roasted flavors. Moderate long aftertaste, but not overly bitter or distracting.
Exceptionally smooth and full body. Moderate carbonation.
I'm not enough of a brewer to know whether using nitro is a gimmick or not, but the mouthfeel of this beer lives up to the claims ("extra smooth and creamy"). The roasted flavors are strong, and lean on the bitter side, but it's still got nice balance and complexity. This is almost a beer you have to chew, but in the best way!
