Pumpkin and chocolate
Got a glass of Pumpkin Spice Latte Pinstripe in the Blue Pants taproom. It is a very dark caramel with a tan film and lacing.
I smell pumpkin, spice, and chocolate immediately. The pumpkin and spice stand out but the stout's chocolate character is very much there.
When I drink some, however, the pumpkin and spice are up front. The chocolate I can smell manifests itself more as roast to the pumpkin. This gives Blue Pants entry into the pumpkin beer arena a baked/roasted pumpkin trait that I don't recall getting from other pumpkin beers.
Like the other Pinstripes, this is on the thicker side of a medium body; smooth and rich.
I have been rather put off by most pumpkin beers. This is a nice approach that has character that others lack and one I wouldn't shy away from next fall.
