Description:

Brewed in the style of a traditional British ESB (Extra Special Bitter), we’ve been making ESB continuously since 1987, and it’s now the benchmark for the Amber beer category. Despite having “bitter” in its name, Redhook ESB is really not that bitter at all. This brew is all about the balance of caramel malt sweetness completed by spicy, citrusy hops. Red Hook ESB poured into my pint glass a burnt orange with a curtain of bubbles coating the inside of the glass. The beer looks like someone did a mix of cola and orange soda. There isn't much of an aroma, I get piney hops and a vague sweetness. Taste is very bready and bitter, but the clean finish removes most flavor from the aftertaste. Quite thin and chuggable.

I've had really hoppy and bitter ESBs and others that seem like a Scotch ale with sweetness and malty bitterness balanced. This is in the first category and reminded me of a brown ale while drinking it.This offering from Anheuser Busch is not of my liking.
