Description:
Brewed with well water (the original well at the Old Brewery, sunk in 1758, is still in use, with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground); fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ to create an almost opaque, wonderfully silky and smooth textured ale with a complex medium dry palate and bittersweet finish. Foundational beer
Nearly black when poured with a huge head that quickly shrank to a top coating, leaving chunks of lacing on the glass. Smell is not strong but has oatmeal, yeast, and some chocolate. Taste is more coffee than chocolate with a slight bitter finish. Feels silky smooth in the mouth. Very happy with the beer. Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout is very good but isn't particularly attention-grabbing.
