On our search for the perfect warm weather beer, we wanted something light bodied and thirst quenching, yet filled with complex and interesting flavors. We stumbled across the fruit of the prickly pear cactus, native to California. This tangy fruit is a great complement to the tart and refreshing traditional gose style beer. Refreshingly Simple
A bright but slightly hazy golden yellow with a thick, white head that dissipates to a thin, white film.
A nice fruity yeast along with slightly tart aroma make for a refreshing first impression. The taste is stronger on the tart and fruity flavors, a bit of saltiness, along with a nice round and soft finish that is very clean and quick. I don't really get much of the added grapefruit and cactus, though.
The gose isn't a commonly done style (at least to me), but despite the fact that I can't taste some if the "extra" additions to this beer, the Sierra Nevada Otra Vez is still a refreshing and good choice on a warm day. I hope I can find some more of this style when the weather warms up
Nice, simple gose.
Otra Vez was nearly colorless and clear in my tasting glass at the Rocket City Brewfest. This smells of salt and citrus. The taste is assorted light fruits. This was a pleasant surprise and I will likely buy a full pour at some point this summer.
