A tumble but not a stumble
Sierra Nevada Tumbler is an autumn brown ale that pours a dark clear copper red and has a nice frothy head. It smells mostly of roasted malt and a faint nuttiness. The flavor is smooth and rich, dark with malt flavors, and a bit of bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is a touch on the thin side but not so much that it takes away from the overall enjoyment of this beer. It's solid, but nothing fancy.
Take a Tumble!
Pours out a transparent, dark, almost chocolate brown with a full and bubbly head. The head is full of small bubbles giving it a creamy appearance.
A chocolate and nutty aroma, with lots of roasted malts. A hint of an herbal hoppy aroma as well, but the hops are definitely background to the malt.
Malt flavors dominate, with milk and dark chocolate flavors, a light coffee roastiness, and a hint of smokiness. The hops are subdued, although the herbal flavors and the malt smokiness do linger on the finish.
Nice, roasted malt flavors and a hint of smoke reminiscent of some of the barrel aged dark ales, the Sierra Nevada Tumbler is a nice intermediate between a stout/porter and some of the amber ales.
