A porter with some training wheels.
Pours a very dark brown/black, along with about a half finger of head that dissipates quite quickly.
Nose is dark roasted malt, with notes of coffee, chocolate, nutty, and a subtle earthy hop aroma.
Taste is similar, with coffee and chocolate roasted flavors prominent, with a slight earthy hop flavor. Bitterness is fairly low and aftertaste is fairly short. Nice tasting, but a bit simple compared to some American Porters.
A medium light body, and moderate carbonation.
St. Charles Porter, by Blackstone is a tasty and easy drinking intro into a big world of darker beers. A hint of some of the darker, roasted malt flavors - although those looking for a stronger, more complex dark beer should probably look elsewhere.
Simple Porter
Blackstone's St. Charles Porter was very dark brown in my pint glass with a thin head that left rather swiftly. The smell is mostly dark chocolate with coffee and nuts behind that. As far as the taste, it was mostly coffee with chocolate and a slight hop bite of bitterness. It feels fairly smooth on the tongue. Not bad, just dull.
