Not Just a Pumpkin Ale - an Imperial one!
Dark, reddish amber in color with a full and foamy off white or very light tan head. The head is long lasting.
As you would expect from an Imperial Pumpkin Ale, there is a lot of pumpkin aroma, but unfortunately not too much else. There is a touch of some caramel and bready malt as well as hint of herbal hops, but you really have to search out the non pumpkin smells.
The taste is a much nicer balance, though, with the sweeter pumpkin and pumpkin pie flavors kept under control. There is both a nice hoppy bitterness and an alcohol dryness that help keep the pumpkin flavors interesting and avoid the excessive sweetness from a lot of pumpkin beers.
A medium to medium full body and medium carbonation.
Tis the season for pumpkin beers, and so far the Tinman Herald comes the closest to a pumpkin beer that has managed to balance the pumpkin and the beer aspects at the same time.
