Description:

Coastbuster was first brewed as a Side Trail Series brew and with an overwhelming response, we have decided to adopt Coastbuster Imperial IPA into our year round Upland Brew Lineup! Inspired by the gloriously effervescent qualities of hop varieties common to West Coast style Imperial IPAs, Coastbuster is our vehicle for displaying the best of what these hops have to offer: their tropical, fruity, and floral aromas and flavors. Pours a deep golden amber, with a very white frothy and bubbly head. The head starts out at a full two fingers, but recedes fairly quickly to about half a finger.

As expected from an Imperial IPA, strong hop aromas (although not as strong as some Imperial IPAs) along with a nicely full bready and caramel malt.

A taste that is unexpectedly balanced, at least while the beer is cool (40-50 degrees) . The grapefruit, resin, and floral hop flavors are fairly strong but the bitterness is fairly well managed. The caramel and toffee malt flavors are not as strong, but they do help give a nice roundness to the beer, avoiding the sometimes spiky IPA flavor. The aftertaste is long but not overly bitter although it is mostly the pine resin flavors and a little bit of alcohol.

A medium body with nicely balanced carbonation.

An Imperial IPA that doesn't make you wince or second-guess your beer choice, Uplands Coast Buster is deceptively drinkable.
