This Day in Alabama Beer History

The day has arrived...breweries in the state of Alabama can now sell "beer-to-go" to their patrons. Before today, if you went to a brewery, you could buy beer in the taproom but you had to drink it there. No cans or bottles to go. No filling up growlers from the tap. Brewery tourists would have to leave the brewery and find that beer at a store to take home.

But not anymore...

Overnight, things changed. Some breweries such as Cahaba Brewing in Birmingham opened just past midnight for any patrons that wanted to make their historic purchase. In Huntsville, Salty Nut decided to open at 11am today and there was a dozen or so patrons there at 2pm. Today was also when Salty Nut officially introduces their Unimpeachable Ale to the general public. The staff was busy putting the Unimpeachable Ale stickers on crowlers while I was there and the peach brew was the primary draw today.

It seems that most of the breweries have invested in crowlers/machines, so don't feel that you are missing out if you don't have a growler of your own yet. For ZiggyZoggy readers in Alabama, get out there and support your local breweries with beer-to-go sales!
