Yazoo Brewing Company

Yazoo Brewing Company

Brief History and Information:

Yazoo Brewing really started with a homebrewing kit bought from the back pages of Rolling Stone in 1993. I was a cash-poor college student living in an old farmhouse in Virginia, and brewing my own beer seemed a little less illegal than the pot-growing operation my other housemates were involved in. I was amazed that I could make something that actually tasted like beer at home! I kept on brewing, even when my wife Lila and I returned home to Mississippi after college, and then when we moved to Nashville in 1996.

Yazoo Brewing Company Tour Review

Tue, 09/23/2014 - 18:28 -- Cory

The tour group was gathered by the taps and moved past the restrooms, out a door, down the outside wall by about 10 feet, and then back through a door into the brewery area. The space wasn't climate controlled, so our hot, muggy day followed us during the tour. Our guide soon provided everyone with a 5oz stemmed snifter for sampling. He had a rolling cooler at his feet and pulled out a growler. The first sample was Dos Perros amber. As the group sipped their sample, the guide gave us a history lesson of Yazoo.

Many Mexican beer styles today are descendants of old Austrian styles, from when Austria ruled Mexico in the late 19th century. Our Dos Perros is made with German Munich malt, English Pale malt, and Chocolate malt, and hopped with Perle and Saaz hops.
