Sierra Nevada Flipside Red IPA pours a deep ruby red with a bubbly frothy head. It has a very bright, citrus-and-pine nose. The flavor is similar- lots of hops in the taste, but it’s all pretty well tamed and subdued, all things considered. It’s a rare hop-heavy beer with little to no bitterness and a nice solid mouthfeel.

Pours a deep, clear, ruby red. The head is an very light tan, and a full and foamy two fingers.

An herbal and hoppy nose, although it's a more earthy and rich aroma than lots of IPAs, which are much more piney. The rich toffee and caramel aromas from the malt help keep the aroma in check.

Although the flavors are nice - with an citrus and fruity hops and an earthy malt richness, the bitterness is a bit higher than I wanted - which makes it harder to really taste those more subtle flavors. However, the overall flavors are well balanced, and the bitterness isn't excessive - it just feels like it's in the way. The finish is quite quick.

Well balanced, nice rich malt and earthy hops and a moderate but well controlled bitterness make the Sierra Nevada Flipside a nice evening beer for approaching cold weather.
