Barrels that once contained world-famous Kentucky Bourbon lend a sweet hint of caramel and vanilla to dark-roasted malts and finish with the essence of a lightly roasted coffee. The barrel-aged flavors native to Kentucky compliment this complex stout brewed and aged with Haitian coffee to create the bourbon country’s own Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout. Bourbon barrel in the name, but coffee in the mouth
The Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout pours a very deep brown/jet black with a noticeably tan head. Head is nicely creamy and leaves noticeable lacework around the glass. Dissipates quickly, though.
Although the name is bourbon-barrel, the primary aroma is that of coffee and malt - bitter, but not off-putting. The taste is similar, with malt and coffee the primary flavors, although subtle flavors of oak, vanilla and smoke are present. Good, but a little bit one dimensional.
Has a little less body in the mouth than expected, although it's not watery. Relatively easy-drinking for such a dark beer, although the coffee flavor does overshadow some of the more subtle bourbon flavors expected.
Least bourbon-infused bourbon barrel beer evar
I tend to avoid bourbon barreled beer since I'm not a fan of whisky and bourbon. For me, the liquor has overpowered the beer. No fear of that here. Despite the name of the beer, it is more telling that the beer's description on the bottle and their website doesn't really mention bourbon, just use of oak barrels.
Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout came from the bottle near black and barely had a filmy cap of tan. Smell is dominated by coffee beans with chocolate finished by a wisp vanilla from the bourbon. The taste is bitter coffee and not much else. The stout is inconsistent; sometimes oily, sometimes watery. Very disappointed.
