With hints of caramel and cocoa, the malt body has the depth to stand up to cool weather, but does not come across as heavy. This balancing act is aided by the generous use of American hops. Pours a dark, chocolate brown, with a thin, light tan head.
Malty nose, with some nutty, toast, and chocolate notes. Some slightly herbal and earthy hop aromas as well.
Very balanced flavors; the toasty malt flavors give way to nice, bright hops, that have a quick finish and a quick aftertaste. Fairly low bitterness makes it easy to enjoy the nice depth of flavor.
Medium full body, along with nice crisp carbonation.
A very nice and drinkable Brown Ale. 'Best' is certainly a very high bar, but Bell's Best Brown Ale certainly must be up there.
