Designed as a flavorful session beer, Oarsman Ale uses a classic German brewing technique to impart a light, refreshing tartness. Oarsman Ale grew out of a desire to explore the tradition of session beers, trading intensity for finesse while still creating a worthwhile experience for the taster. The grain bill includes a healthy portion of wheat, while light hopping lend citrus & herbal notes to the aroma. Fermented with Bell's house ale yeast, Oarsman comes in at 4.0% alcohol by volume. Rather than being the dominant flavor note, the tartness in Oarsman takes on more of a palate-cleansing role, making it perfect with meals or purely on its own. (Description provided by company)

A wheat beer for all seasons
The Oarsman Ale pours a cloudy pale yellow, with two fingers of head that have both good retention and lacing.
The nose is a wheat mash with citrus and grass dominating - a bit of malt is also present. Taste follows the nose, with a lemony citrus giving way to a slightly bready malty flavor. Slightly bitter, but very nicely balanced flavors. A medium light body, with moderate carbonation.
A very nice wheat beer - a little more complex than a Blue Moon, but if you like wheat beers, this is one you should try.
Row!
Bell's Oarsman pours a slightly hazy yellow gold color with a whitecap head. It smells tart and sour- not unpleasant if you are expecting it. If not, you may be forgiven in thinking this beer has gone bad. It tastes slightly less intense as the smell implies, with some malty notes boosting and supporting the sour mash flavors. It’s a good sour beer intro for those interested in the style.
