Close, but not quite
Pours a deep and clear dark red, with two fingers its foamy and light tan head. Very fizzy.
Nose is a combination of a caramel malt sweetness and bready aroma, subtle citrus hop aromas, and a fruity yeast ester aroma. Some hints of alcohol also. Very nice and quite interesting.
The taste is a little overpowered by the alcohol, but there are some hints of the various flavors and aromas noticeable in the nose. The main casualty of the high ABV seems to be the banana like fruity flavors. Hop bitterness is relatively low, and the alcohol leaves a fairly quick and dry aftertaste.
A medium body and fairly high carbonation.
North Coast Brewing's Brother Thelonious started out with a great aroma that was unfortunately not quite matched in the flavor balance. The alcohol flavors were just a bit too strong to play nice with some of the more delicate flavors, and that's a shame. It does support some good music, though.
Brother Thelonious poured
Brother Thelonious poured into my glass a dark brown with ruby hues and a tiny off-white head that vanished. I get Belgian yeast and sugar, plums, and some booze when I smell. Taste isn't quite as complex but is quite delicious - plums, bread soaked in red wine. Medium bodied and a bit thinner than what I want with this style.
Hey Brother
North Coast Brewery Brother Thelonius is a Belgian style abbey ale. It pours a clean and clear reddish copper color, with a yeasty and malty sweet smell. There’s a strong sweet oakiness to the flavor too that’s really nice. It blends well with the yeast and malt in the nose. This is a well rounded abbey ale, with a nice balance of complex flavors.
