Terrapin’s Capt’n Krunkles is a black IPA. It pours true to its name, dark and opaque, with a creamy coffee-colored head. It smells malty and hoppy. The flavor is a nice balance of same, with a bit more of a bitter aftertaste than expected. The mouthfeel is a touch watery, but not without some body. The idea of black IPAs are intriguing, but this one didn’t quite live up to my expectations. Even still, it’s a nice drink.
