Very Good, But Not Remarkable
Bottle pour into glass revealed a very hazy beer of warm honey. Thick cream-colored head formed giving off a sweet malty smell. I can get some grapefruit and other citrus in the flavor. It was a nice beer. I found the experience pleasant, but there wasn't any aspect that stuck out to me as something distinctive to make me have an urge to drink this again. However, I think Dead Guy Ale is a great option for a safe beer choice to already have on hand if having folks over.
Beer to Wake the Dead
Pours a slightly reddish amber, with a finger of a bubbly white head. The head thins pretty quickly, but that thin layer does stay around awhile.
Lots of malt on the nose. Caramel, biscuit, and pale malts all contribute to the complex and appealing aroma. The hop aromas are earthy and piney, and not too strong.
Similar complexity in the flavor. A lot of malt complexity - strong on the caramel sweetness and a pale malt crispness. Hop flavor is fairly low, but their bitterness is nicely balanced against the malt flavors. Some subtle alcohol flavors do help to keep the finish dry and not too long.
A medium body and carbonation.
Strong flavors and nice complexity is not always found paired in a beer without overpowering bitterness, but this beer does just that.
