Rich, malty, and complex with a surprisingly dry finish, this robust English-style porter is never cloying and wonderfully drinkable. A dense tan head portends the chocolate, roasty, brownie batter flavor. Marris otter barley imported from the UK imparts a deep nuttiness accentuated by the unique english yeast strain. The cheeky yeast generates subtle pear, apple and strawberry esters that gently contribute to the depth of flavor. The complex balance comes from imported UK target and fuggle hops, contributing earthy, herbaceous, tea-like notes. The result is a hefty brew that walks the fine line between eminent drinkability and overwhelming flavor impact. (Description provided by company)

Six of One
Heavy Seas’ Deep Six is an English Porter. It pours jet black and dense, almost like a cask pour (very little head on this beer at all, and almost no carbonation). It has a nice and strong nutty smell, with a bit of coffee notes in there as well. The flavor is big and dark, with a fair amount of bitterness. Mouthfeel is well rounded. The lack of carbonation might turn some people off, but I enjoy it for this style.
