Darkest of brews with a tan head about two fingers thick that shrank to a thin coat and left pretty webs of lacing as the session progressed. Lots of citrus and a toffee-like sugary sweet in the smell with hints of cafe mocha in the background. Occasionally, though, something about the smell would seem overly acidic or metallic. The taste shifts back and forth between a hoppy, grapefruit bitterness and a choco-coffee bitterness that is tempered by a creamy tone that seems prevalent all the time. The abundance of alcohol is smoothed over quite well in the taste...and then makes itself repeatedly known in the aftertaste and the liquor-cordial flavor on the lips. Robust on the tongue with a little carbonation, but there were times it felt like I came upon clusters of grit. I'm enjoying this the more I drink it. Not likely to become a regular choice, but will make a nice change-of-pace beer during the first part of the year.
