Not Quite Like Anything Else
Pours a slightly reddish copper, with a full finger of head from the initial pour. The head disappears quickly, and leaves a thin and lasting bubbly layer.
A malty and fruity nose, with some noticeable bready and sweet caramel malt aromas along with some fruity Belgian saison ester aromas.
The taste is strong on both the malt and ester flavors, with the finish featuring the expected red wine tannins. Slightly unusual, but well balanced and complex. A medium finish, with both the fruitiness and meatier red wine tannins.
A medium full body and moderate low carbonation.
An interesting variation on a typical Belgian beer, the Red Wine Barrel Saison has both the lighter and fruity flavors of the saison and a complexity from the barrel aging.
