Description:
On a beautiful summer night in July while peaceful Danes rocked at Roskilde Festival and others sipped wine in their picturesque summer retreats, an apocalyptic tidal surge flooded the famous Ølbutikken in Copenhagen and drowned thousands of precious beer - Hop Flood is a bitter tribute to the heroic bottles that didn’t make it. An IPA in an Amber Ale's clothing
Pours a cloudy dark reddish amber. Lots of sediment floating around and settling in the bottom of the glass. Not that appealing.
The nose matches the name, with strong hop aromas dominating the nose. Some alcohol is detectable as well.
Strong hop flavors. Some citrus, and strong pine resin flavors. Malt is noticeable toward the finish, with some caramel and bready notes, and ethanol helps to cut the hop bitterness.
A medium full body, and moderate carbonation.
Although the pour is not attractive (I'm not sure if there should be this much sediment in an amber ale), the hop flavors are strong and fairly well balanced. Not a typical, amber, though, but a nice variation on the theme.
