Description:

There are two kinds. There is the DayTime kind, which is bright and welcoming and then there is the NightTime kind, which should never be confused with the DayTime. NightTime is dark and deep and may take you to unexpected places, places that the DayTime can not. But then the NightTime is not suited for ordinary life and ordinary tasks, in fact NightTime may be the answer for that sort of thing, meaning that those sorts of things may never get done. Things take time in the NightTime, things slow down and you can pause (you have to, actually) and investigate carefully to find that level of objective detachment that is only possible under the spell of the NightTime. Seek the Day but fear not the Nighttime. (Description provided by company)

NightTime poured into the pint glass black with thin beige film. Smells of pine and grass hops. Its taste is roasted malt of chocolate and a hoppy finish. Feels thinner than I expected for such a dark beer with light carbonation.

Pours a pitch black with a half finger of light tan head.

Nose is hoppy, with grassy, pine, and citrus hop aromas most prominent. Roasted malt is surprisingly subtle for such a dark beer.

Taste highlights malt a lot more, with roasted coffee and some chocolate and caramel notes. Hop flavors are present, and balance the dark malt flavors nicely. Hop bitterness is low, although there is some bitterness from roasted malts as well. Moderately long and bitter aftertaste.

A moderately light body, and average carbonation.

Lagunitas Nighttime Ale is an interesting mix of bright hop flavors with dark roasted malt, and the aroma and flavor seem to accent different parts of the beers personality. Those who like Pale Ale hops and those who like Stouts and Porters could probably all find something in this beer to enjoy.
