Comments
A Belgian-style ale from the US
Pours a slightly cloudy golden amber, with a thin head. Head dissipates very quickly.
Nose is strong on slightly pungent and tart aromas from the yeast and slight biscuit sweet from the malt. Hop aromas are low.
Taste features the same fruity, slightly tart, yeasty flavors. Malt flavors are subtly sweet to balance out the tart. Finish is quite strong on banana like flavors. Hop flavors and bitterness is fairly low. A slightly lingering tart aftertaste.
Medium body and moderate carbonation.
The Belgian Saison is a very interesting style, being low on hops and high on fermentation ester flavors. It is unique, though, and something that you should try at least once. This North Coast Brewing Le Merle is a nice example, and should be (fairly) easy to find.
