Comments
Dark, rich, and smooth
The Left Hand Milk Stout pours a deep, dark brown (mostly opaque even held up to light) with a light tan head. The foamy head is about 2 fingers thick and has has good retention and excellent lacing.
The nose is primarily one of roasted malt and coffee along with a subtle oat, yeast, and chocolate aromas. The taste is malt and and a smooth coffee upfront, with a little hop, along with the chocolate at the end. The aftertaste is mostly pleasantly sweet, although there is an off-note of bitterness when taking a *cough* enthusiastic sip.
The beer itself is very smooth with a full body, a creamy mouthfeel and moderately-low carbonation. The coffee and chocolate notes, along with the sweetness in the aftertaste make this beer almost a dessert in itself.
Left Hand's Milk Chocolate Goodness in a Glass
LH's Milk Stout poured into my pint glass nearly clack with a thin tan head that melted away, leaving some lacing. It smells of coffee first, followed by chocolate. When I take a sip, it is cafe mocha with a creamy finish. Maybe not as much bitter coffee as other stouts, more like well creamed coffee instead of a cup of black joe. Feels med to heavy body. A smooth stout that tastes great.
