Lil' B, not so lil' flavor
Evil Twin Lil' B imperial porter pours dark with a huge frothy brown head. Loads of retention. Like a root beer float. I get lots of malt and coffee from the smell, which is to say that this beer smells like heaven.
The taste is similar: chocolate, malt, more heaven, a bit of bite. It is pretty well carbonated making it more refreshing than you might think, given the weight of this beer. It’s a bit hefty but not too dense.
In closing: Mmmmmm.
Nothing Lil' Here!
Pours a pitch black, with a dark tan, almost milk chocolate colored head. Unfortunately the head only sticks around for a minute or so. Lots of alcohol legs.
A very rich nose, with lots of dark fruit, some chocolate, and bright alcohol aromas. I swear I can pick up a hint of some sort of oak barrel-like aroma. Very nice, without being too aggressive on the bitter or alcohol.
Taste is strong - as you'd expect from an ABV of 11.5%, but the dark, rich malt and earthy hop flavors are still dominant and the alcohol - although noticeable - serves more to help cut the aftertaste a bit than to distract from the other flavors.
The body is aggressively full - almost syrupy, and sticks around on your palate.
I'm not a huge drinker of Imperial Porters and Stouts, but Evil Twin's Lil' B does make me more curious about what I may be missing. Lots of depth of flavors, and the high ABV and full body make sure you drink it slow enough to enjoy all the nuance.
