Rye and Vanilla blended in harmony
Oked Double Rye is an orangish-brown that is mostly clear with a fat finger of a white head. The foam leaves nice lacing even with just a slight film floating atop the beer.
I mostly smell vanilla from the oak when I take a deep breath. I also smell a bit of caramel.
The rye is very evident in the taste. It hits me first and the vanilla from the oak barrel comes around at the end and in the aftertaste. Also present is caramel and some grassiness.
Of the barreled beers I've had, the effect here seems somewhat modest. For me, that's not a bad thing.
