Description:

Our Trippel Belgian Style Ale (pronounced triple) opens with a bold blast of hops that slowly gives way to the fruity esters implied by our Belgian yeast strain. In the Belgian tradition of brewing singles, doubles and triples, Trippel is the strongest with the longest fermentation. Remarkably smooth and complex, our bottle-conditioned Trippel is spiced with a trace of coriander. (Description provided by company)

Considering the ubiquitous presence of New Belgium beers in every grocery store, I was a bit worried about how good their tripel would be. Went into the glass a pretty clear gold with a two finger white head that shrank to a cap and left nice lacing. Smells of sweet fruits and wheat. Nice balance of malt and hops, sweet and bitter. Mouthfeel is light and smooth.

It isn't as complex as La Fin Du Monde but is close enough for me that New Belgium Trippel is a more affordable alternative.

Pours a crystal clear golden yellow with a finger of an off white, bubbly head. The head thins out pretty quickly, but doesn't entirely disappear.

Nose is pale, bready malts, some very you fruity aromas, and just the slightest hint of some herbal hop aromas.

Taste features a lot of the same notes in the aroma, with the bready malt and fruity Belgian yeast flavors stronger at the front, and the herbal and earthy hop flavors coming in more towards the finish. There is a little bit of alcohol at the finish which helps keep it moderately short and not too strong.

A medium light body along with decent carbonation. Crisp and somewhat light without being too watery.

A Trippel with a little bit of America in it, New Belgium's Trippel is a nice take on a style that more people should be aware of.
