Description:

The Flat12 Porter is inspired by the robust porters favored by the Industrial-age working men of Europe. We chose to emphasize balance from a combination of dark grains including brown malt, which was the primary roasted grain of the time. This Flat12 creation is smooth and balanced with slight roast and chocolate notes, yet it’s not heavy, just like a good porter should be. (Description provided by company)

Pours a pitch black with one finger of a tan head. Head sticks around for a minute or so.

Aromas are a nice range of malts, from nutty and slightly sweet all the way to a subtle roasted coffee. Essentially no hop aromas, but this aromas shows the range that malt can bring to a beer.

Taste displays a similar range, with stronger dark chocolate and nutty flavors coming out prominently. Finish is strong on the bitter roasted/burnt flavors, but overall bitterness is moderate but nicely balanced. A lingering slightly bitter and burnt aftertaste.

A medium light body, and moderate carbonation - very drinkable.

A very nice demonstration of the range of flavors that malt is capable of - from slightly sweet to bitter, this beer has them all.
