Description:

What’s that bite of tartness doing in a pumpkin beer? Adding the unexpected kick of cranberry juice to brighten this traditionally spiced seasonal ale. Pumpkick is brewed with plenty of pumpkin juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice, but it's the cranberries and touch of lemongrass that send your taste buds sailing. (Description provided by company)

New Belgium's Pumpkick emerged from the bottle an orange-gold with a slight, white film head. I get mostly cinnamon and then pumpkin with a bit of grassy hops. Sometimes the grassy smell would be strong enough to give the beer a dark cider aroma rather than pumpkin pie. The taste is more balanced between the cinnamon and pumpkin. It is better than what I would expect from "pumpkin-flavored" beer, but I would call this complex. Feels smooth to drink but not thin. It neither scared me from pumpkin ales nor made me all that eager to search out another. A more accurate Overall score would be 3.5...a little better than average.
