Description:

Imagine a pumpkin vine wound its way in a field of barley, and a brewer harvested it all to make a beer. Add Northwestern hops and a blend of spices, and you've got UFO Pumpkin. The malt combination provides a smooth body and slightly sweet flavor, which balances perfectly with the earthy notes derived from the pure pumpkin. And like all of our UFO beers, UFO Pumpkin is UnFiltered. (Description provided by company)

Pumpkin UFO is nearly amber with a bubbly off-white head that swiftly melted, not leaving a trace behind. It has a pumpkin-forward aroma with cinnamon following. Nothing beer-y about the smell. The taste of pumpkin is much more mellow than the smell. I get more cinnamon and earthy hops than I do pumpkin in the flavor. It is a festive harvest celebration on the tongue, pumpkin blends on with the other notes. Medium bodied with very little carbonation.

Harpoon's Pumpkin UFO is an unfiltered pumpkin ale. The look of the beer reflects this- a dull, hazy copper color with a nice thick head that dissipates relatively quickly. It smells fantastic: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, fall spices abound. They're prominent in the flavor as well, mores than the pumpkin actually. Take that for what it's worth. Whether or not you will like this beer depends on if you want to taste beer, if you want to taste pumpkin, or if you want to taste all the warm and fuzzy fall spices. If you like the latter, you'll like Pumpkin UFO. For me, I could use a bit more body and a bit more balance between the pumpkin and the spices and you know, the actual BEER. But it's not bad. Drinking it in July is causing some serious longings for Autumn and a greater variety of pumpkin ales.
