Goin' Skinny DIPA-ing
Samuel Adams’ Rebel Rouser is a west coast-style Double IPA. It pours a deep amber with a bubbly thick head and a good bit of lacing. It smells fantastic- grapefruit, orange, and approximately an entire pine forest. The flavor is more muted than the nose might cause one to expect, but there’s a decently strong hop presence here, along with flavors of pine and resin. The finish is dry but not too bitter. Overall, a solid DIPA, but a little disappointing given that great nose.
Rousing in all the right ways
Golden amber, with a vigorous pour leading to a very thick head.
Lots of the piney hop aromas, with a hint of fruit and grapefruit, and a noticeable but mild alcohol aroma. Strong malt aromas also, but who buys a double IPA for strong malt flavors?
Speaking of flavors, they are quite nice - with an unexpected amount of hop subtly mixing in with the moderately high bitterness and palate clearing alcohol flavors. The malt does make a stronger, more balanced appearance here as well.
I was expecting just a hop bomb, but this Rebel Rouser gave me a lot more than I expected!
