A good American beer
Sam Adams pours clear with a deep reddish amber color. Smells primarily of hops with just a hint of malt. Interestingly, the taste is a fairly equal balance between the hops and malt, with the hops becoming more prominent at the finish.
Less watery mouthfeel than something like Budweiser or PBR, and its taste lingers in the mouth a bit after swallowing.
A good American beer that you can find just about anywhere.
Maybe my bottle went bad...
Poured a dark gold to copper with a finger head that disappeared quickly. Smells of caramelized malt and bread. Taste is similar with a slight bite from the hops. Unfortunately, I'm also getting a slight rancid note on the finish. Glad the original was more impressive than some Sam Adams varieties I've already tried, despite the funky finish on each gulp. An overall score of 3.5 would be more accurate for me.
An American Standard
Sam Adams, as ubiquitous as its beer can be, actually does a better job than a lot of craft breweries. Case in point, their Boston Lager: it's a well balanced beer with a great blend of hops and malt, and a smooth finish. It's refreshing and full of flavor, but it won't make your tongue pucker due to an insane amount of hops. Choose this beer over Budweiser any day of the week, please.
