Sapporo Premium Beer went into my glass a light straw with a wisp of a head which receded to a ring, which stuck around for a long time.

It took several sniffs for me to pick up the smell. All I can detect with my nose is a sweet rice smell (it smells like a rice sock I microwave as a hot pad for sore muscles) and cardboard.

Taste is as dull and barely detectable as the smell. Really if you don't like beer, drink this with food and you won't be bothered at all. I've drank nearly all I poured into my little sampler glass and I still struggle to describe the taste. The best I can describe it is Ritz crackers...some bread and butter-like flavors.

This is pretty thin stuff, but the carbonation keeps it from feeling too watery.

Sorry, I won't accept that Sapporo's smell and taste are "subtle" and "delicate" just as Japanese cuisine is. I've been punched in the face by saki and don't see why a Japanese beer couldn't be as bold.

Clear golden yellow, with a surprisingly full, white head that dissipates to a thin, foamy layer.

Lots of sweet, probably rice aroma, with bit of a pleasant but uninspired grassy aromas from the hops. The taste is definitely on the sweet side with the amount of adjuncts, and although there was a bit of grassy aroma, there is less flavor. A very quick and clean finish, and overall this beer wouldn't be too bad on a hot summer day.

Not a bad lager, per se, but just a little bit on the bland and predictable side. If you're into great beer, you're probably not reaching for a Sapporo, but if you just want something wet and beer like, you can do worse.
