Simple name, complex flavors
The Schlafly Porter pours a deep opaque brown, with two fingers of a light tan head that has great retention and lacing. A very attractive dark beer!
The nose is complex with dark roasted malt and notes of chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Taste is very smooth with slight sweetness balancing the mild bitterness from the hops, and the chocolate and coffee flavors adding nice depth. Subtle aftertaste, with lingering semi-sweet chocolate flavor.
A nicely balanced medium body, with moderate to low carbonation. Easy to drink, and a nice bottled porter.
