I shared a bomber of St. Stephens with my brother in Tennessee. The stout poured into our glasses a very dark caramel, almost black. The head was tan, creamy, and slow to melt away. Lacing was nice, but was a bit broken up.

They call it an American Stout, but this is clearly focused on the sweetness of the malt. The hops were quite buried. However, St. Stephens smells and tastes so good, I can't deduct points in those areas. I'm just going to pretend they referred to this as an English stout and not American.

The roast dominates the smell and taste. There is a rich chocolate presence, but a complex chocolate, not a candy bar milk chocolate.

Feels lush and smooth as I drink it. Best sipped because of the fudge-like denseness of the flavor.

Sure wish this wasn't a one-time brew. It was really damn yummy.
