A Star(lit) of a Porter!
Pours a deep, dark brown. The slightest bit translucent if held up to a bright light. Off white, thin head and nice, strong lacing as the beer level drops.
Lots of roasted and burnt malt aromas, with a touch of earthy and herbal hoppiness.
Taste is malt focused and the roasted coffee and dark chocolate flavors are more assertive. A fairly quick aftertaste, and the malt bitterness is moderately low. The hops are subtle, but the herbalness provides a nice balance to the richer malt flavors.
Medium light body, and fairly low carbonation. The body is surprisingly light, but the lower carbonation level does help it from feeling too pale ale-like.
Magic Hat's Starlit Porter is surprisingly subtle, with some nice toffee and roasted coffee malt flavors. Not quite as dark and intimidating as it looks.
